Our volunteers are the heart of Great Memories. When you volunteer with us, you will be directly involved in our in-person community events, where families bring their physical photos and records to be digitized. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to help King County families preserve their memories and tell their story. Your time and dedication help us build community trust and ensure a positive, high-quality experience for everyone.
Who can volunteer with us? We welcome individuals residing, learning, or working in King County aged 18 and older to fill out our volunteer contact form below!
Children 14 and older should ask a trusted adult guardian to fill out the form on their behalf. Volunteers under 16 must have a guardian present during the duration of their volunteer service.
Volunteers will be trained on how to use high-speed and overhead scanners to digitize photos and other media. If not already, they will become proficient in transferring digitized files to USB drives for families.
Volunteers will be interacting directly with community members from diverse backgrounds, including immigrant families, elders, and youth. Training will cover empathetic and respectful communication to ensure every family feels safe and valued while sharing their stories.
Our events are designed to be more than just a service; they are community gatherings. Volunteers will be trained to help facilitate a welcoming and engaging atmosphere and to assist with educational workshops and storytelling sessions.
We are committed to providing volunteer opportunities that build both soft skills, such as communication and leadership, and hard skills, like technical proficiency, which are needed in many industries across King County. Our ultimate goal is to empower our volunteers to be effective ambassadors for our mission and to feel a sense of ownership in the work we do.
